About
The Kaiser-Wilhelm-Promenade runs above the roofs of Bad Gastein towards the Kötschachtal. It starts at the parish church, then climbs gently, with the Belle Époque hotels, the waterfall and the snowed-in valley below you. The path is wide and mostly cleared in winter, and along the way stand a monument and a few old pavilions. Two and a half kilometres, about an hour, and not one metre of effort.

I go on a clear morning, when the light falls on the old hotels and the photos come out well. You stand best at the Kaiser-Wilhelm-Denkmal and by the pavilions. In snow, bring microspikes or solid winter boots: the path is cleared, but the shady stretches stay icy.
Duration & difficulty
About an hour for two and a half kilometres, more like an hour and a half with photo stops and a break on the bench. Almost flat throughout, without steep sections. On ice you need shoes that grip.
Best season
Winter, on a clear day in the morning. In summer the path works just as well, but it's better under snow.
Location & access
Start at the parish church in the middle of Bad Gastein. From the station you walk through the centre; on the local bus you get off at the waterfall or at Mozartplatz.
