Mountain lake
The Jägersee sits behind Kleinarl with the Radstädter Tauern all around it, and the water is so clear you see right to the bottom. A path runs around the shore, forty-five minutes, flat and through forest. You can rent a boat and row out on it. There are almost always swans along the shore, and in the morning the lake lies still as glass.

Local from Salzburg
Early in the morning or late in the afternoon the lake is a mirror, in between it ripples. The swans are nearly always there and aren't bothered by anyone. And if there are two of you: take a boat and row to the middle, from there you see the Tauern all the way around.
Forty-five minutes for the loop around the lake, 2.1 kilometres and hardly any ascent. Flat and along the shore the whole way, no problem for kids or tired legs.
All year, best in spring and autumn. In late autumn the trees light up while the first snow is already on the summits.
Behind Kleinarl in the Pongau, a good hour from Salzburg by car. The car parks are right by the lake, and bus 530 runs to the Jägersee.
