About
The Stubnerkogelbahn leaves from the middle of Bad Gastein and has you at 2,251 metres within a few minutes. Hanging off the top is the biggest connected ski area in the valley, Schlossalm, Angertal and Stubnerkogel, plus the suspension bridge and the Glocknerblick platform. The runs go from easy-going blue to sporty black. If you don't ski, you walk a few short paths up there and look.

I take one of the first gondolas, then the pistes are still quiet and the suspension bridge is nearly empty. In settled weather I walk over to the Glocknerblick platform; on clear days you see the Großglockner from there. In bad weather I keep it short: up, one photo, down and into the thermal baths.
Duration & difficulty
With the gondola ride, the suspension bridge, the platforms and a run or two, half a day is gone; with a stop to eat, more. The paths up top are short and easy, but often icy and windy in winter.
Best season
Winter, for as long as the lift runs. On clear days the ride is worth it for the view alone; in fog you see nothing up there.
Location & access
Valley station right in Bad Gastein, walkable from many places to stay. Otherwise the ski bus, since the car parks fill up fast in midwinter.
