About
The Kapuzinerberg is the city's second hill, the one without the fortress, and that is why it's quiet up top. From the foot you climb up over stairs and forest paths, and from the viewing platform the whole city lies in front of you: old town, Salzach, and opposite the Mönchsberg with the fortress. You need a good hour, and in return you barely meet anyone on the way. At sunset it's at its best up here.

I set off shortly before sunset, when the city stands in warm light and the platform is almost yours alone. Take a lamp for the way back in the dark, parts of the path are stony. Sturdy shoes are better anyway, after rain it gets slippery.
Duration & difficulty
A good hour for the way up, 2.2 kilometres and around 160 metres of ascent. Easy to moderate: you hardly need any fitness, but the path is stony and slippery in places.
Best season
Spring to autumn. In spring the slope is in bloom, in summer the path is shady and therefore the cooler option next to the Mönchsberg.
Location & access
On the right-bank side of the old town, opposite the Mönchsberg, right in the city. By bus or on foot; by car it isn't worth it, there is hardly any parking here.
