About
The Richterhöhe is the lookout on the Mönchsberg that faces south: below you lies Schloss Leopoldskron with its pond, to the right stands the fortress, behind it the chain of the Alps. You get there on the paths across the Mönchsberg, a good hour there and back. It is one of the few viewpoints in the city where hardly anyone is ever standing.

I go early in the morning or shortly before sunset, when the light sits on the fortress and you have the place to yourself. Bring something to eat and stay, nobody is pushing you on. And add the paths around it, every few hundred metres the forest opens up again and you see something else.
Duration & difficulty
A good hour there and back, 2.8 kilometres and a good 120 metres of ascent. Easy, the paths are well kept and the climb stays moderate.
Best season
All year. In autumn the air is clearest and the Alps stand out sharply, in winter there is snow on the paths.
Location & access
On the Mönchsberg in the middle of Salzburg. On foot up from the old town or with the Mönchsbergaufzug and then the last few minutes on foot.
