Ski resort
The Gipfelbahn takes you from Dorfgastein up to the Fulseck, and up there you have three winters to choose from: the pistes of the ski circuit over to Großarl, a signposted snowshoe trail between the top and mid stations, and the panorama path along the ridge towards the Kieserl. Skis, touring skis or just boots in the snow, the view over the Gastein and Großarl mountains is the same everywhere. The first gondola goes at half past eight.

I take one of the first gondolas at half past eight, then pistes, panorama path and snowshoe trail are still empty and the light is soft. My favourite combination: first along the panorama path from the top station to the Kieserl, then on snowshoes over the Arltörl and the Heumoosalm down to the mid station and back into the valley by lift.
The panorama path takes three quarters of an hour, the snowshoe trail around two hours. Technically easy, but alpine terrain: basic fitness, sure footing and windproof clothing are part of it.
Winter, as long as the ski circuit runs. On clear days the ridge is worth it, in fog you're better off on the pistes.
Valley station of the Gipfelbahn Fulseck in Dorfgastein. By train to Dorfgastein and on with the ski bus, which is free with a ski pass. By car via the A10, and parking at the lift is free.
