About
The Schlossalmbahn starts in the middle of Bad Hofgastein by the bus terminal and takes you up as a modern ten-person gondola from 843 to over 2,000 metres. The whole area hangs off it up top, Schlossalm, Angertal and Stubnerkogel, with wide pistes, winter walking trails and viewpoints. If you don't ski, take the Panoramaweg Schlossalmblick from the top station. The first gondola goes at half past eight, from ten it gets busy.

I take the first gondola at half past eight, then the pistes are freshly groomed and still empty, and towards the Angertal in particular it fills up noticeably from ten. If you don't ski: the Panoramaweg Schlossalmblick from the top station is three kilometres long, an hour and a half, and the view over the Gasteinertal comes along the whole way.
Duration & difficulty
For a day on skis reckon on four to six hours on the piste plus breaks. The Panoramaweg from the top station takes an hour and a half of pure walking and is rated moderate.
Best season
Winter, as long as the lift runs. The pistes range from wide and blue to sporty red, with a few steeper stretches in there too.
Location & access
Valley station in the middle of Bad Hofgastein, right by the bus terminal. By car via the A10 and the B167, there is a parking deck at the lift. By train to Bad Hofgastein, then the local bus 558 to the bus terminal.
