About
The platform stands just below the summit of the Stubnerkogel at over 2,200 metres, and from there you can see all the way round: Großglockner, Hochkönig, Dachstein. From the gondola exit it's five to ten minutes on foot, and the path is short and secured. The suspension bridge hangs next door, and the summit restaurant is right there too. In winter you stand in the middle of the ski area with pistes below you.

On clear days I either go up in the morning or shortly before the last ride down, then the light is softer and there's noticeably less going on up top. Wear winter boots with grip, the approach can be icy. If you're not good with heights, take the short footpath instead of the suspension bridge, the view stays the same.
Duration & difficulty
Five to ten minutes on foot from the top station; with the gondola, photos and a break, reckon on one to one and a half hours. Very easy, but alpine: icy in places in winter, so proper shoes are a must.
Best season
Winter, when the Stubnerkogelbahn runs, and then on a clear day. In high fog you see more up here than down below, in solid cloud nothing at all.
Location & access
Up on the Stubnerkogel above Bad Gastein, take the Stubnerkogelbahn up. You reach the valley station by ski bus or by car, and there is parking on site.
