Photo spot
The panorama sphere hangs at 2,650 metres on the Kreuzkogel, the highest point of the Ski amadé. You step inside and have the three-thousand-metre peaks of the Hohe Tauern all around you and the high valley of Sportgastein below. From the top station of the Goldbergbahn it is a few minutes. A short stop between two runs, no more than that, but winter up here is a different thing from down in the valley.

I go up early in the morning or at golden hour, the light is soft then and most people are on the piste. Dress warmly: the spot is secured but exposed, and the wind up here almost never stops. In a storm or a whiteout, stay down, you will not see anything anyway. There is a summit breakfast in the sphere too.
A few minutes on foot from the top station of the Goldbergbahn, around twenty minutes with photos and a break. Technically easy but high alpine: sturdy shoes, warm clothes, hat and gloves.
Winter, and then on a clear, windless day. In a storm or under solid cloud the ride up is wasted.
Up on the Kreuzkogel above Sportgastein, on the Goldbergbahn from the valley station. To the valley station by ski bus or by car over the Gasteiner Alpenstraße, with a ski pass the toll is included.
