Restaurant
Maier's is in the Steingasse, under old stone vaults and by candlelight. It's tiny, so you sit close to everyone else, and that is exactly what makes the evening. Meat is the main thing here, the rest comes along without any fuss. Fine dining, but nothing about it is stiff.

Book early, the place has barely any tables and is full pretty much every night. I always start with the beef tartar and have a steak after. And I ask for the table right under the stone arch, that's where you sit most comfortably.
Austrian-Mediterranean with a clear focus on premium steaks. Seasonal ingredients, cleanly plated, no show around it.
Upper end, heading towards fine dining. For what's on the plate and the service, the price is fine.
Steingasse 61, on the right-bank side of the old town at the foot of the Kapuzinerberg. Hidden and still right in the middle, best on foot.
