The Schwaiger is the coffee house of Bad Hofgastein, right on the Hamplplatz opposite the Kurhaus. Inside: warm light, upholstered benches and a display case with over 80 kinds of cake and gateau, all from their own bakery. Decent coffee with it, snow and mountains outside the window. In winter it's the warming stop between skiing and the thermal baths.

I go in the morning between nine and eleven, then I can pick my table and the counter is still completely full. After the Schlossalm it's the best stop in town: drop the skis, take the ski bus into the centre, hot chocolate and a slice of cake. Bring cash, cards don't always work.
Gateaux, strudel, pralines and ice cream made in-house, plus breakfast, soups and a few warm classics like goulash. A classic coffee house, none of it prettied up.
Coffee and cake come to four to six euros, with a bite to eat you're at ten to twenty per person. For the quality that's fair.
Central on the Hamplplatz in Bad Hofgastein, opposite the Kurhaus and a few steps from the Kurpark. Walkable from the hotels, the ski bus stops and the Alpentherme.
