Café
The Straubinger Café sits in the middle of Bad Gastein on the Straubingerplatz, in the walls of an old grand hotel. After a day on the skis or in the thermal baths you go in, order a cappuccino and something sweet from the in-house patisserie, and look out at the square. Viennese coffee house, but without the stiff part.
Anton
Local from Salzburg
I like coming late in the morning. At four everyone comes down off the mountain and the window seats are gone. Afterwards I walk the few steps down to the waterfall and back up. In winter that is the finest short walk in the village.
Tarts, cakes and pastries from their own patisserie, plus the classic coffee specialities and a few small things.
Grand hotel prices, not a village café. For the patisserie and the building around it, that's a price you pay gladly once on holiday.
Right on the Straubingerplatz in the historic centre of Bad Gastein, a few steps from the waterfall. Ten minutes on foot from the station.
